FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT

Marty Clarke

Marty Clarke founded MCC after years of working inside operating businesses — environments where a plan only matters if someone turns it into working systems, and where the person recommending a direction is often the same person accountable for making it real.

That operating background shapes how MCC works today: diagnose the whole system, put the plan in writing, build the infrastructure, and leave the business stronger and more independent than before.

OPERATING REALITY

Plans are cheap. Operating systems are not.

Marty's formative work happened inside businesses where the gap between a recommendation and a result was his problem to close. Budgets were real, timelines were real, and a strategy that could not survive contact with day-to-day operations was worth very little.

That experience produced a lasting conviction: most business problems are not idea problems. They are systems problems — unclear ownership, undocumented workflows, tools nobody maintains, and decisions that stall because nobody knows who is responsible for them.

AUDIENCE & BUSINESS

Every venture is an audience and an operation.

Whether the product is software, a live show, or a professional service, the same two questions decide the outcome: does the offering genuinely serve its audience, and can the operation behind it deliver consistently?

Marty's work across startups, live entertainment, and real estate kept returning to that pairing — building the front-of-house experience an audience sees and the back-of-house systems that make it repeatable.

STRATEGY + EXECUTION

The most valuable work sits between the plan and the launch.

In every chapter of his career, the highest-leverage work was the unglamorous middle: sequencing the steps, coordinating the people, handling the setbacks, and keeping the original objective intact while the details changed.

MCC is built around that middle. Engagements do not stop at a recommendation — they define the implementation path, the responsibilities, and the checkpoints that turn a direction into an operating result.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL WORK

Real businesses do not have departmental problems.

Marketing decisions create operational obligations. Technology choices create ownership and vendor questions. A pricing change touches sales, delivery, and accounting at once. Working across functions — rather than inside one specialty — is where Marty has spent his career.

That is why MCC deliberately spans business infrastructure, digital ownership, marketing systems, and practical AI: the connected problems are the ones that most need a single accountable partner.

OWNERSHIP & CONTINUITY

A business should outlast any single person, tool, or vendor.

Ventures change hands, platforms come and go, and key people move on. The businesses that survive those transitions are the ones that own their assets, document their systems, and keep decision authority where it belongs.

That principle runs through every MCC engagement: client-owned accounts, written scope, documented handoff, and systems the team can actually maintain after the engagement ends.

MILESTONES

Chapters of an operator's career

A few chapters that shaped how Marty works. Each is described using publicly documented sources; details that remain undocumented are deliberately left out.

Madison, Wisconsin

EatStreet

An early chapter inside a University of Wisconsin startup that grew far beyond campus.

EatStreet began as BadgerBites at the University of Wisconsin and later expanded nationally.

Madison, Wisconsin

Wisconsin Comedy

Producing live comedy taught the same lessons as any operating business: know the audience, run the logistics, and deliver every night.

A profile covering Marty’s start in Madison comedy, his approach to producing different show formats, his Rough Cut Comedy work, and the development of The Creek and the Cave Austin.

Austin, Texas

Rough Cut Comedy

Building a show operation in a new city meant starting from zero — venues, audiences, and reputation all had to be earned.

After moving to Austin, Marty produced frequent Rough Cut Comedy shows and helped expand the operation — work that public reporting connects to The Creek and the Cave’s Austin launch.

Austin, Texas

The Creek and the Cave

Helping bring a storied venue to a new home was strategy and execution in the same job.

During an uncertain period for live entertainment, Marty initiated the connection that helped bring The Creek and the Cave from New York to Austin. He contributed to the work required to turn the opportunity into an operating venue and a new home for the local comedy community.

From operator to consultant

Marty Clarke Consulting exists because the problems Marty solved as an operator are the same problems growing businesses face every day: connecting strategy with execution, owning the assets the business depends on, and building systems a real team can run.

Today he brings that operating perspective to owner-led businesses, professional practices, and organizations in transition — as the firm's founder and principal consultant, directly involved in every engagement.
